1967-1988

1967-1970  We returned to Provo and school/jobs to a warm basement apartment on 700 E in Provo.

Judy continued her calling in the Stake Relief Society and Dick as Ward Clerk to Bishop Soren Cox. A member of the Elder’s quorum Presidency was David Ibbetsen, a young man baptized by Dick while on his mission in the Western Canadian Mission.

While there, Judy also began the first phase of another eternal calling from which she will never be released, Motherhood. She conceived dear baby Shae. That was hard with all we had to do, and with her teaching fulltime. Dick was accepted to several Law Schools and they chose U of Fla because of its standing, a scholarship and so we could be near Judy’s parents. After Dick’s graduation, during the summer, we lived and worked with Dick’s parents where Dick helped them close out the appliance store in preparation for his Dad beginning college.

Then, in the fall, we filled up the smallest U-Haul trailer with all we owned and headed for Florida. There,we found a little, older duplex and went to the second hand store to buy a few pieces of furniture. Judy had called the Whitmers to tell them we were coming so some things were accumulated by that dear ward, including a bed and a baby bed. Once we got rid of all of the cock roaches it was a sweet little place. Within a few weeks of our arrival, Sept 30, 1967, Shae Lee was born and Judy’s Motherhood calling was confirmed in full and she started that calling as she has always conducted it, as an excellent, exemplary, inspired, inspiring, true Eternal Mother.

Judy served as a Counselor to Helen Christiansen in the RS presidency and as an early morning Seminary Teacher. Dick served first as YM President and Scout Master and later as Adult Aaronic PH leader-the way it was done before they developed the “Prospective Elder” approach and put them in the Elders’ Quorum. Judy was right in the thick of serving the sisters and the youth, all of whom she loved and they all loved her.

Matthew was born Jan. 28, 1970 and her Motherhood calling was notched up and diversified to include a sweet baby boy.

1970-1973   We graduated and took a job with the Law Firm of Elam, Burke, Jeppesen, Evans and Boyd in Boise, Idaho. First we lived with Mom and Dad Sanders until Dick passed the Bar and then we bought a small home in Boise. Judy was early morning Seminary Teacher again and she and Dick taught a Sunday School Class on Marriage and Family Relations. Dick was also Young Men’s President and Scout Master again. Jan. 28, 1973, Sarah Elizabeth became the next addition to Judy’s Motherhood, a dear tiny girl.

1973-1988 We moved to Weiser, Idaho and started the law firm of Walker and Sanders. We bought the Indian Head Apartments, kind of an old motel changed to 7 apartments with a small, detached house in which we lived. Judy served there as Beehive Advisor, and Spiritual Living teacher in the RS. May 7, 1974, Krista Anne was borne, a wonderful addition to Judy’s Motherhood calling. Dick served first as a Seminary teacher for three school years, then as Scoutmaster.

In 1975 we sold Indian Head and bought 40 acres on Manns Creek and rented and moved to the Gunn house on Manns Creek, without changing wards. Judy was Teacher Trainer for the Primary and learned about Goal Selection Interviews and helped Dick make them a part of his Fatherhood with their dear children. So sweet. We also got our first dog, the marvelous Socks. She also had a motherhood calling. Dick served as Elders Quorum President.

June 9, 1976 Nathan Aaron was born, and now Judy’s Motherhood required more speed. In 1977 we built our Manns Creek home on 10 of the 40 acres and moved in. Now she had large home full of children and a cat and with Socker Boppers standing guard. She served as a Counselor to Nola Woods with Joan Wood in the Primary Presidency while Dick was called to be First Counselor to Bishop Robert Woods in the new Weiser 4th Ward. Rod Panike was Second Counselor.

Nov. 8, 1978, DeNae Charess was born to bring great additional joy to Judy’s Motherhood. Judy served during this time in the Nursery and as ward camp director for the Young Women. When the Bishopric was released, Dick served as a Primary Teacher.
